While sitting in the office, listening to music and producing lines and lines of code, I got somewhat annoyed by the people mowing the lawn and trimming the edges. Because then I cannot open the window, first because even though I won't care that much about the noise having the headphones, my office mates would. And second because this trimming the edges involves kicking around small stones and stuff that will actually fly through the window hitting me. And we wouldn't want that, right? So, distracted as I was I stopped coding for a while and looked outside. Within one minute the sky got dark and a huge amount of water started to fall down. I think this is commonly called raining.
Not very interesting as such, just that suddenly the lawn mowing noise stopped (understandably) and was replaced with the very nice, soothing sound of rain. I think this was a hint of autumn, for sure I was not feeling like summer anymore, that cold I am carrying around might have its share in that. It only lasted a few minutes in which one of the lawn mowing guys passed on his truck, completely soaked. Poor guy. These are the days I am happy to have a cosy warm office, heated by 4 to 6 computers, to work in. And I do really like sitting next to a window in a dark autumn evening letting the mind wander while outside it is storming, hailing and whatever else you can imagine.
So, to train for the dark autumn days yet to come, I let my mind wander. And while it was wandering, I remembered the lyrics of a very dear song I was listening to yesterday evening while chatting. To quote the beginning:
Wandering
Walking
Drifting with the tide
Browsing
Searching
Finding our way through life
-- the Gathering - Box
Somehow very well fitting, describing my feelings pretty correctly.
But then sky cleared up, the sun came out again and I returned to my programming. Nonetheless I am still in an autumnish mood. Okay, listening to Clannad probably is aiding in that. And summer still officially lasts for a bit more than a month. By the way, on the picture to the right you can marvel at the well executed "two correctely shaped stones make a great window open holding"-device. Works like a charm, gives a cosy atmosphere but is slightly bad for the seal. Who cares, the usage permit for the building is supposed to run out this year anyway. And it is not my fault that the window doesn't stay open by itself.
PS.: I know that sitting at an opened window is probably not the wisest thing to do if having a cold. But without fresh air I'll get a headache in a matter of minutes in this room.
