A while ago I had a discussion about memorable (favourite) Beatles songs. And 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' was high in the charts there. My personal favourite probably still is 'Nowhere Man', but yes, WMGGW is an amazingly good song, no arguments there. Recently I have been looking for that song on YouTube, actually I have been looking for the ukulele version of it played by Jake Shimabukuro, which I have been pointed to a couple of years ago (cannot remember anymore by whom). A few minutes ago I was searching for possible translations of 'Wahnsinn' into english and what do I learn there? ILU stands for 'I love you' (probably chat or SMS lingo). Now, it does have a certain appeal that a search for 'madness' brings up 'I love you', but the real knack is that I actually have been thinking that ILU refers to the incomplete LU-decomposition. Should this concern me or does it simply rise my nerd score? Or both?

DVDs are basically a great invention. Especially the DVD-Video. They do have their pitas, mostly the brain-dead invention of region codes and the copy protection stuff. And of course this unskipable commercials, trailers and big fat warnings that you must not even think about doing anything with this DVD besides maybe watching it (but please in your own house with closed curtains and preferably no one else there; slightly exaggerate). But generally, it is a great thing: Good quality, easy to use (remember rewinding the tapes?), added bonus features like multiple languages to choose from and so forth.

So for watching a movie on the 'big' home screen it works like a charm, throw the disc into the player, lean back and enjoy. But sometimes I would rather like to watch a movie on the laptop. And then it is really annoying to have the DVD drive spinning all the time. So actually, it would be much nicer to have the movies (not the bonus stuff, if I want that, I go to the TV and the stand-alone player) on the hard-drive instead. Thankfully this is a reasonably easy task, well, not really.

Es wieder einmal Zeit für eine aktualisierte Ausbeute. Nachdem Oleg mich so tatkräftig unterstützt hat, die Lücke von Anfang des Jahres zu schließen, will ich doch flott mal dafür sorgen, daß ich nicht wieder so ein Loch in die kontinuierliche (theoretisch) Überwachung der neuestens Sachen aus der CG-Kunst reiße. Übrigens, erinnert sich noch wer an 'Poor Pluto'? Das ist mittlerweile ein wenig durch die Blogosphere gegangen (jedenfalls an den einschlägigen Stelle, die ich lesen). Meine Kriterien für 'gut' sind also nicht vollständig singulär. Wie dem auch sei, ich wünsche wieder fröhliches Begutachten und hier und da herzliches Lachen.
