Interessantes Quiz bei SpOn. Partiell etwas einfach, aber dafür teilweise auch sehr haarig und generell eine putzige Idee. Ich hatte 7 Richtige, aber hauptsächlich durch glückliches Raten. Ist das nun ein Zeichen für ein 'Thema verfehlt' der Werbeschaffenden?

Robert informed me last week about the new release of the Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC). It claims to be better and faster than the version before. So, since I am use FLAC (and of course Vorbis) for my media archive I thought I give the new version a spin and while doing that also check for the improvements.

FLAC offers a bunch of different quality settings, which of course do not influence the sound quality at all — it is always possible to reproduce a bit-identical version of the original wav-file — but give the trade-off between time needed for compression and compressed file size. The higher the quality setting, the smaller the file will (should) be but the process will take longer. To be even more precise, the quality settings are synonymous for a bunch of more technical parameters, but I do not want to go into that.

...not do: Update Flash. Serious pain in the rear end. And not just because it is Flash. No, also because of that. And maybe there is an easy fix for that, but for once I am so not motivated to try to find it. I prefer to miss the web-enhancements requiring the latest, the shiniest, the best; to quote Bender:

Bite my shiny metal ass.

Which brings me to a 'Thou shalt': Thou shalt have a backup of the working Flash plug-in. Or even better, at least one backup, so that after deleting the first one, there is still the second (third, fourth, ...) to return to. Because it is not obvious where on the vast Adobe space there might be the old version for download.
