So, I have just been watching the new Harry Potter movie. We went to the cinema at the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, the one with the original versions and the annoying ice-cream intermission. But since we had to be at the cinema half an hour before the moviecommercials started to pick up the reserved tickets (necessary, the cinema was full) and no intention to already go in that early, we sat down at the Australian bar in the Sony Center for a beer. As they are everything but fast in serving there, we ended up having to rush a bit to not be too late for the moviecommercials, especially as we wanted to pick up some stuff from the bar.
So all in all we were actually too late for the commercials, but just in time for the ice-cream selling intermission. Yeah. Well, could be worse, after that there were only a few trailers ('
The Golden Compass', '
Stardust', '
Ratatouille', '
The Simpsons Movie' and a penguin surfing movie whose name I forgot) and then the movie started.
It's been a while since I read the book and I am also not that fanatical about Harry Potter. But it is a nice series and I did like the other movies, at least the ones I saw. Nothing world-shaking, but solid and well-done entertainment. I particularly like Alan Rickman as Snape and Emma Thompson as Sybil Trelawney. Anyhow. This movie falls in the same category, it suffers a bit from the fact that already the book lacks a strong story line. There is nothing really happening for most of the time. But once something is happening, everything is done very fast and I imagine that it might be very hard to follow, if one has not read the book. But in general one gets entertained well, at least I had a good time.
There seems to be an IMAX-3D version of the end battle, but I doubt that this is really worth it. Okay, things are exploding and flying around, but it is really not that impressive. But well, maybe it would be in 3D.
Oh, and a major annoyance: Even though the movie is not really that long (138 minutes), there was a pause in between. Hello? But that is due to the cinema I assume.
